Truth and Reconciliation

Facing the past with honesty and openness paves the way for healing, justice, and stronger relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in Canada.

Truth-telling and reconciliation are essential steps toward acknowledging historical injustices, listening to Indigenous voices, and building a future of respect, understanding, and shared responsibility.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Every September 30th, we honor the children who never returned home and the survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
